Questions that we're asked often.
Repair your Vencord installation:
vesktop --repair if you prefer using the command line or have no tray. This is usually caused by network issues or DNS problems on your system. Try the following steps one by one to resolve the issue.
DNS servers help translate domain names (github.com) into IP addresses (140.82.121.3). By default you are probably using your ISP’s DNS server, who sometimes may be unreliable or deliberately block certain websites like GitHub.
We recommend switching to a reliable DNS server like Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1:
The hosts file contains mappings of IP addresses to hostnames and can be used to override DNS settings for specific domains. The file is located at
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts/etc/hostsOpen it with a text editor with administrative privileges (e.g., Notepad on Windows, sudo nano on macOS/Linux).
Look for any entries that contain github and remove them.
If you found any entries containing github, save the file and restart your system for the changes to take effect.
Some isps may block access to GitHub. You can try using a VPN to bypass these restrictions.
You can use ProtonVPN for free: https://protonvpn.com/free-vpn
tls: failed to verify certificate: x509: certificate signed by unknown authorityYou have custom SSL certificates installed on your system which are causing this issue. This is usually because you used cracked software or development tools that installed their own certificates.
To resolve this:
certmgr.msc and hit enter to open the Certificate managerThe most common cause of lag are poorly written themes or CSS.

You can’t. But chances are, it’s already a Vencord plugin!
Client modifications are against Discord’s Terms of Service.
However, Discord is pretty indifferent about them and there are no known cases of users getting banned for using client mods! So you should generally be fine as long as you don’t use any plugins that implement abusive behaviour. But no worries, all inbuilt plugins are safe to use!
Regardless, if your account is very important to you and it getting disabled would be a disaster for you, you should probably not use any client mods (not exclusive to Vencord), just to be safe
Additionally, make sure not to post screenshots with Vencord in a server where you might get banned for it
Settings are already shared across all Discord instances on the same PC so you can just switch and they will be kept!
Vencord is uninstalled the same way you install it. Just use the “Uninstall” button instead
The only official websites are vencord.dev and vesktop.dev. Any other website claiming to be an official Vencord website is likely malicious.
If you have downloaded software offered by an unofficial site, remove it as soon as possible, run a malware scan, reinstall Discord, and change your password. Also, if possible, dispatch an intercontinental ballistic missile to your hard drive for good measure.
